79th REMEMBRANCE DAY MARKED IN KUMASI

The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Pyne on Friday Monday 11thNovember, 2024 joined Ex-servicemen, the security agencies and a section of the public to mark the 79th Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph Square, Adum in Kumasi.

The Remembrance Day, which falls on November 11 each year, is set aside to honor Ghanaian and other soldiers of the Commonwealth who lost their lives in World War I and II.

Present at the solemn occasion were regional commanders of the security services, ex-servicemen, departmental heads, traditional rulers, the clergy among others.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Pyne and chairman of METSEC laid the first wreath on behalf of the government and people of Ghana while General Officer Commanding of the Central Command, Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku, laid the second wreath on behalf of the security agencies.

Mr. Frank Duodu, the Regional Director of NADMO who represented the Asantehene laid the third wreath on behalf of the traditional authorities and Asanteman while the fourth wreath was laid by the Ashanti Regional chairman of the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG), Ex-WOI George Appiah on behalf of the veterans and VAG.


The mounted guard which consisted of 180 officers from various security agencies was led by Warrant Officer II Francis Osei of the Fourth Infantry Battalion.

 At11:11 am, a siren sounded, accompanied by mournful dirges to mark the end of hostilities. This was followed by the reading of the Binyon verses by a war veteran.
