KMA AND MANHYIA PALACE CLEAN KUMASI

His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, and Hon. Samuel Pyne, Mayor of Kumasi have graced a historic clean up exercise in Kumasi.

The trio, were joined by about 20 paramount chiefs and other chieftains of the Golden Kingdom on Saturday March 30, 2024, to keep the City of Kumasi clean as part of activities to mark the Silver Jubilee of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

A source at the Manhyia Palace has hinted that, Saturday’s clean up exercise is very unusual and special.

At exactly 6:00am on the day, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly's (KMA)Environmental Health Department, and Waste Management Unit together with the Manhyia Palace ensured that all was set for waste cleaning and waste collection exercise in Kumasi. It started from 6am to 12pm, as planned.

Right from the Manhyia Palace where the exercise began, the Custodian of the Golden Stool, Ashanti Regional Minister, Mayor of Kumasi, chiefs and regional heads of security agencies drove from the Palace through Airport Roundabout thence to Tafo, for inspection of the clean-up exercise.

 

At Bantama where the Otumfuo Osei Tutu had a tete-a-tete with Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, but publicly commended him (Bantamahene) and his subjects for pouring out in their number to participate in the clean-up exercise. 

Adum, the Central Business District of Kumasi, was the next stop for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his inspection team.  

The Occupant of the Golden Stool and his team's arrival at Adum was met with thunderous cheers from hundreds of traders who had closed their shops to join the sanitation exercise.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was pleased with participation of the public in the sanitation exercise, especially, their compliance with directives from KMA and Manhyia Palace.

Traders, commercial drivers, and other residents of Kumasi were asked by the KMA prior to this exercise not to engage in trading activities, whiles seizing all vehicular movement from 6:00am until 12pm on Saturday March 30, 2024, through a press release issued by Public Relations (PR) Unit of KMA on March 26.

Other areas Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his entourage visited to inspect the clean-up exercise were Kejetia, Asafo, and Alaba.

On the sidelines of the event, the Regional Minister told the press the Regional Coordinating Council was prepared to work in close collaboration with the Manhyia Palace for a successful Silver Jubilee of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Hesaid, he has asked Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives(MMDCEs) in the region to embark on programmes and activities in commemorating Otumfuo's Silver Jubilee.

He therefore appealed to the public to be law abiding, keep their environment clean, and be hospitable to foreigners and strangers who would join the Silver Jubilee celebration.

For his part the Mayor of Kumasi told the press that, the KMA was adequately ready to play its part for a successful celebration of the Otumfuo's Silver Jubilee.

He said the Assembly would continue to keep the City clean, and support security agencies to provide services before, during, and after the celebration, and urged the public to be responsible and comply fully with the Law and bye-laws of the Assembly.
