The KumasiMetropolitan Assembly (KMA) has cautioned the public over alleged extortion ofmoney by some unscrupulous people under the pretext of allocating stores to tradersat Kejetia upon completion of the project.
A statement issuedand signed by Godwin Okumah Nyame, the Public Relations Officer,said no person, group of persons or organization has been authorized to collectmoney on behalf of the KMA for the purpose of allocating stores to traders atKejetia.
The statementsaid, the Assembly will soon commence validation of all traders and shop ownerswho were registered at the Kejetia Lorry Terminal, prior to the commencement ofthe on-going Kejetia/Central market Redevelopment Project.
“KMA is thereforewarning the public especially traders not to pay any money concerning stores atKejetia and also any trader, group of persons or organization who will be foundinvolved in the alleged extortion of money will be ruthlessly dealt with inaccordance with the law.” It added.
The statementassured all major stakeholders involved that the Assembly will continue toengage them at every stage of the project and also urged all traders seekinginformation on the Kejetia Project to contact the KMA Public Relations Unit orthe Estate Department for any further clarification on the project.
