KMA COMMISSIONS 6-UNIT CLASSROOM BLOCK FOR AFRICAN FAITH BASIC SCHOOL
Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Samuel Pyne has commissioned a 6-Unit Classroom Block with funding from the District Assembly Common Fund(DACF) for the African Faith Basic School at Santasi-Kegyase in the Nhyiaeso Sub-Metro Council on Wednesday September 11, 2024.
Commissioning the project, Hon. Sam Pyne noted that the 6-UnitClassroom Block was the first Phase of a 12-Unit Block for the school and that the second phase will commence in the coming weeks to enhance teaching and learning in the school.
He said the project was as a result of a request from the Metro Education Directorate following the dilapidated nature of the existing classrooms in the school in an urban area like Kumasi.
The Mayor appealed to the authorities and the students to adopt good maintenance practices to prolong the use of the Classroom Block.
He added that the Assembly has also procured furnitureto be distributed to Basic Schools in the Metropolis of which the school was a beneficiary.
Nana Fosu Nimoh, Nkosuohene of Kegyase on behalf of the traditional authority applauded the KMA for the gesture, saying it was timely since it is the beginning of a new academic calendar year.
He expressed optimism that the block will be maintained for the future generation. The Chief subsequently appealed to the KMA to support the school with an overhead tank to improve access to portable water by the students and also fence the school.
The headteacher of the school Mr. Louis Addai also appealed to the KMA to provide an institutional toilet facility for the school.
PRESENTATION OF DESK
Earlier, the Mayor presented 900 mono and dual desks to the Metro Education Directorate for onward distribution to 21 Basic Schools in Kumasi in a brief ceremony at the Subin Sub-Metro District Council. The desks were received by the Head of Planning at the Education Directorate, Madam Judith Bamford.
According to Hon. Samuel Pyne, the presentation of the900 desks amounted to a total of 5000 desks distributed to basic schools in the metropolis so far. He however called for good maintenance of the furniture to prolong its lifespan.
