In an effort to clamp down on the mounting of illegal Billboards, sanitize the city and improve its aesthetics, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has constituted a seven-member Billboards/Outdoor Advertising Technical Committee.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) , Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi believes the Committee will enhance the Advertising sector and improve revenue generation for the Assembly. The seven-member committee is chaired by the Metro Roads Engineer, Ing. Nana Poku Agyemang. Other Members of the Committee are; Metro Works Engineer, David Ameyaw, Retired Metro Works Engineer, Ampomah Mensah, Torgbor Mensah of Advertising Association, Accra, Kofi Nti, Advertising Association, Kumasi, Dr. Kojo Yeboah, Management Consultant and Francis Dadzie, President, Advertising Association of Ghana.
The MCE disclosed this when he gave a progress report to the General Assembly at its Special Meeting held in Kumasi. He explained that in reviewing the performance of Skymount Ltd regarding its contract to collect revenue from bill boards, management met all advertising agents in the Metropolis to explain to them the destruction their activities have created and the need to realign and sanitize their operations. According to the MCE, the exercise revealed that a total of 128 billboards were without permits and an amount of Gh¢ 380,648.00 was expected to be realized from these billboards. "We issued demand notices to the defaulters and within two weeks an amount of Gh¢ 60,000.00 was paid with the remaining yet to be settled, he stated. He announced that proposals have been received from prospective entities for the sanitization of the outdoor advertising and bill boards unit for consideration by the Assembly.
