KMA CROWNS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH WITH SCREENING
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has crowned its breast cancer awareness month with a health talk and screening on 23rdOctober,2024 at the forecourt of the Assembly.
Management of KMA used the “pink month” as it’s popularly called to create awareness and to encourage staff and the public to walk into any health facility to have their breast checked no matter their gender.
The platforms used in creating this awareness was social media, radio, letters, memos and the client service unit.
At the grand ceremony, Hon. Samuel Pyne, the mayor of Kumasi advocated for regular breast cancer screenings to reduce risk of infections.
In all about 300 female participants with a handful of men involved in the health talk and screening.
The Deputy Chief Nursing Officer at the KMA Clinic, Joana Burgesson, led in the talk of best practices in handlings the breast. She took the participants through a practical demonstration of how to examine and detect any growth.
A presentation of an undisclosed amount was given to Madam Mary Aidoo, a breast cancer survivor to aid her in her treatment by the mayor. It must be emphasized that the donation was from the staff of KMA.
Speaking to some female staff, they expressed their satisfaction to management for organizing such a program just for them. Like Oliver Twist they asked management for more of such event.
The well attended programme had in attendance Hon. Samuel Pyne, the Mayor; Madam Felicia Owusu Agyemang, Deputy Director/Gender officer; Madam Joana Bergeson, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer at KMA Clinic, Rev. Samuel Amponsah, Deputy Finance Officer of KMA, Staff, a section of the public and the media.
