



KMA INAUGURATES SUB-METRO DISTRICT COUNCILS AND ELECTS CHAIRPERSONS
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has on separate occasions this week inaugurated 4 out of its 5 Sub-Metropolitan District Councils and elected chairpersons for the Sub-Metro and Town Councils respectively.
In his opening remarks, the Metro Coordinating Director, Mr. Kwadwo Akuamoah Boateng said the aim of the biennial sub-metro and town council elections was to allow for broader consultation since the introduction of the bottom-up approach in decision making with reference to the Local Governance Act 936.
At the Manhyia North Sub-Metro District Council, the chairmanship contest was between Hon. Kwaku Sarpong, government appointee and Hon. Kwasi Kwarteng, Assembly member for Dote electoral area. 16 members casted their votes and Hon. Kwaku Sarpong polled 10 votes against Hon. Kwasi Kwarteng who polled 6.
Hon. Kwaku Sarpong was later sworn in by a Circuit Court Judge, Her Honor Gloria Mensah Poku after he had taken the oath of office and secrecy.
At Nhyiaeso Sub-Metro District Council, the chairmanship race was between Hon. Kwame Asafu Adjaye, Assembly member for North Suntreso, Hon. Patrick Akwasi Appiah, Assembly member for Patasi electoral area and Hon. Isaac marfo, Assembly member for Apraman electoral area.19 people casted their votes and Hon. Kwame Asafu Adjaye emerged the winner after polling 9 to beat his contenders who had 5 votes respectively.
Hon. Kwame Asafu Adjaye was subsequently sworn in by her Honor Kizita Naa Koowa Quarsie, a Circuit Court Judge, after taking the oath of office and secrecy.
The next election was at Bantama Sub-Metro District Council where the chairmanship position was contested by Hon. Isaac Kwame Acheampong, assembly member for Adoato electoral area and Hon. Francis Amoako Asante, assembly member forKokoso-Asubonteng electoral area. 18 people casted their ballot and at the end, Hon. Francis Amoako Asante won after polling 10 votes against his contender whopolled 8.
Hon. Francis Amoako Asante was subsequently sworn in by a Circuit Court Judge, Her Honour Gloria Mensah Poku after he had taken the oath of office and secrecy.
The last but not the least was the Subin Sub-Metropolitan District Council election where Hon. Ernest Ofori Baffour, assembly member for Fante New Town went unopposed and by popular acclamation he was declared chairman of the council.
Hon. Ernest Ofori Baffour was subsequently sworn in as chairman by a Circuit Court Judge, Her Honor Priscilla Mireku.
In all 10 town councils were also inaugurated with each having an elected chairperson.
Metro Coordinating Director, Kwadwo Akuamaoh Boateng after the elections called on the chairmen to work assiduously towards the development of their Councils and the KMA as a whole.
He subsequently called on the council members to support their respective chairmen in their future endeavors.
