The Round 2 of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund has been launched today by Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, the Mayor of Kumasi in a short ceremony held at the forecourt of the KMA.
Speaking at the launch, the Mayor indicated that following the successful completion of Round 1 of the Youth Climate Action Fund under his predecessor, the KMA has advanced to Round 2.
He continued that the Round 2 offered cities the opportunity to deepen collaboration, support more impactful projects, and to inspire the next generation of local youth leaders.
Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi noted that 26 out of 54 proposals have been selected after a month open call was made to receive proposals from youth groups within the Kumasi Metropolis.
He mentioned that the proposals include Plastic Upcycling and Sustainable Briquerre Production, Waste segregation and compositing in Basic and Senior High Schools, Smoke Detector Alert, Youth-Led Circular Soap Revolution among others.
The Kumasi Mayor noted that he was committed to the initiative and implored all the youth groups to work within schedule and diligently to make him proud.
The Youth Climate Action Fund was announced at Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Innovation Studio during the COP28 UAE Local Climate Action Summit on 2nd December, 2023 and it is aimed at empowering young people between the ages of 15 to 24 to co-create and lead climate solutions through technical support and funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies.
