KMA LAUNCHES YOUTH CLIMATE ACTION FUND ROUND TWO: Calls for Proposals from Interested Youth Groups

TheKumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s (KMA) efforts to address climate change havereceived a boost with its qualification for Round Two of the BloombergPhilanthropies Climate Action Fund.

TheYouth Climate Action Fund, was announced at Bloomberg Philanthropies MayorsInnovation Studio during the COP28 UAE Local Climate Action Summit on December2, 2023. It’s meant to empower young people aged 15-24 to co-create and leadclimate solutions through technical support and funding from BloombergPhilanthropies based in United State of America.

InRound One, the KMA received 50,000USD from Bloomberg Philanthropies, which was awardedto 14 individual youth groups aged 15-24 in September 2024.

Following thesuccessful completion of Round One, the KMA will receive an additional 100,000USDto renew its commitment to addressing climate change in Kumasi, City Authoritiesannounced.

Ata launch of Round Two of the programme at the Assembly’s Conference Room on Thursday January 23, 2025, Mr. Francis Dwira -Darko, Metro Coordinating Director, single out special praise for the former Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne for his exceptional leadership which contributed to successful competition of the Round One of the programme.

Mr. Dwira-Darko further in his address requested interested youth groups to access the fund, stating that Round Two will offer participating cities the opportunity to deepen collaboration, support impactful project, and inspire the next generation of local leaders.

He announced that, “the KMA once again invites youth groups aged 15 -24 in Kumasi to submit proposals tailored to fit the Kumasi’s situation and to help promote sustainable development of the city”.

To access the microgrant fund, interested youth groups can visit the KMAs official website via www.kma.gov.gh from Monday, February 3, 2025, to download the application forms for free. \

 

Applicants, according to Mr. Dwira-Darko could submit forms in person at the Development Planning Unit at KMA Main Office, otherwise via info@kma.gov.gh, latest by Friday February 21, 2025 upon completion.

“Proposals will be review by advisory committees, which will select the most promising projects for funding and implementation by the youth groups. Successful applicant will receive a microgrant of 1,000USD-5,000USD”, he stated.
