KMA REACHES OUT TO OWASS

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly in its quest to address sanitation challenges in second cycle institutions in the Kumasi Metropolis has started donating waste bins to the institutions to keep a clean environment and reduce filth related ailments. The first second cycle institution to benefit from the gesture is Opoku Oware Senior High School. The Assembly has donated 15 big size waste bins, boxes of insecticides and 20 student mattresses. 

Presenting the waste bins to the school, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) said the waste bins are to help the students dispose off waste at designated places to avoid littering.  According to the MCE the insecticides will be used to fumigate the school's compound to rid it of insecticides that will pose as threat to the health of the students and the staff of OWASS. Hon. Osei Asibbey stressed the need for a clean environment both on the school compound and in their homes and communities. “This gesture is a prelude to the Operation Keep the City Clean and Green which is to be launched very soon’’. We want to sensitize the students to keep their environment clean. 


    The MCE   also tasked the school to as part of their corporate social responsibility to embark on a sensitization drive within the school's catchment area and educate the residents on proper sanitation measures. 

    The Headmaster of OWASS, Alexis Frimpong- Nimoh thanked the MCE for the gesture. He said the school has a student population of over 3000 and therefore waste generation is a common phenomenon on campus. However the additional waste bins donated will be placed at vantage points to help in controlling littering.
