Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Sam Pyne and a team from the Metro Education Directorate on Monday 18th September, 2023 toured some WASSCE centers in the metropolis to interact with students and also monitor the ongoing examinations.

Accompanying the Mayor was the Metro Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Dwira Darko.

The team first visited the Kumasi Anglican SHS (KASS)where 1,816 candidates consisting of 1,042 males and 774 females were sitting for the Integrated Science exams with 2 absentees since the beginning of the exams.

At the Armed Forces SHS, a total of 865 candidates were also sitting for the Integrated Science exam with 4 absentees including a deceased.

The third school was the Prince of Peace Girls School at South Suntreso where 131 candidates were writing with absenteeism was recorded.

At the J.A. Kufour SHS at Sokoban where the candidates were sitting for the exams for the first time since the commissioning of the school, there were 379 candidates consisting of 249 females and 130 males with1 absentee who is deceased.

In a press interview during the visit, the Mayor Sam Pyne generally advised the candidates to eschew any form of examination malpractices and focus on the exam since they have been taught what they were being asked to answer.

He charged the candidates to also abjure any form of destruction of school or public property after their examination since the younger generation will also use them, saying “completing SHS is not the end of your life, there is more ahead of you so be responsible in what you do and live a good life”.

He noted that greatness is always from small beginnings and encouraged the candidates that the nation was looking up to them since they were the future leaders.

In all, the general observation was that apart from the absenteeism, the examination was void of any major challenges.
