The Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi accompanied by an engineering team from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly have toured some  flood prone areas in the Kumasi metropolis aimed at accessing  the situation on the ground ahead of the rains.
The areas the mayor inspected includes Dichemso extension, Tafo Nhyiaeso, Moshie Zongo, Akwatia line and Airport roundabout.
During the tour, the mayor realized that there were numerous unauthorized buildings on the waterways which hindered the free flow of water each time it rains heavily, thereby flooding the entire area. It was also observed that human activities such as the dumping of refuse into the drains was also a major factor of the flooding.
To address the situation, the   mayor announced the constitution of a 5- member committee comprising the Director of Waste Management, Metro Engineer, Urban Roads Director, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Regional Coordinator for National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to come out with a report within four days for the possible demolition of structures built on waterways.
The Mayors’ tour also took him to other areas in the metropolis, including the Central Business District (CBD) where a footbridge built for pedestrians was rather being used by traders and hawkers making it difficult for pedestrians to commute freely and also putting undue pressure on the bridge.
The mayor therefore used the opportunity to advise the hawkers to vacate the bridge before it collapses and cause mayhem. Other problems realized were vehicular and human traffic at the CBD.
He was accompanied on his tour by the Ashanti Regional NADMO Coordinator Hon. KwabenaNsenkyere who doubles as the Assembly Member for Dichemso Electoral Area, Metro Coordinating Director, Mr. Michael Ataogye, Urban Roads Director,  Ing. Nana Poku Agyeman, the Director of Waste Management, Mr. John Gorke-Miah and  other heads of Department at KMA and the press.
