Hon. Simon Osei Mensah delivering independence day speech

The Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (ARCC) in collaboration with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), on Sunday 6th March, 2022 celebrated Ghana’s 65th Independence Anniversary with parades of the Ghana Armed Forces, Security Services, School Children and some voluntary organization at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi.

The parade which was held under the theme: “WORKING TOGETHER, BOUNCING BACK TOGETHER” was formed by 15 officers and 363 security personnel alongside pupils and students drawn from some Basic, Junior and Senior High Schools in the Kumasi metropolis.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, who was the reviewing officer thanked God on behalf of the people for restoring Ghana’s economy after the devastating impact of Covid -19 which prevented the observation of the 64th Independence Day anniversary.

In his speech to mark the Independence Day, Hon Simon Osei Mensah reflected on the theme for the celebration and said “it is only when Ghanaians pool their resources together that the social and economic development desired by the country can be realized, considering the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the lives of individuals and society as a whole”.

He admonished the public to eschew trading insults on radio and television and the use of unprintable expressions against one another. 



Apart from  the March past from the Security services and the first and second cycle schools, the annual event was also interspersed with some cultural display by the Centre for National Culture.

The Ashanti regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah and the Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Samuel Pyne reviewed the parade.

Awards and plaques of appreciation were presented to deserving schools that took part in the parade.

Present at the parade were the Regional Security Heads, the Asantehene’s representative, the Bantamahene Baffour Owusu Asare Amankwatia VI; some regional and metro heads of departments, the clergy and the general public.
