Mayor Bonsu Underscores Importance of Forum Exercise at Sub-Metro
The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Kojo Bonsu, has underscored the importance of the open forum exercise that he is currently embarking on at the sub-metros in the city.
He said the exercise was meant to bring governance to the doorstep of the people by listening to them on issues pertaining to their well being and improve living conditions.
He was addressing participants at a forum in the Tafo sub-metro on Sunday, 23rd February, 2014.
The forum which was the fourth in the series of the exercise by the KMA was attended by assembly member's, traditional leaders, religious leaders, market women opinion leaders as well as some heads of department at the KMA.
The KMA boss emphasized the need to reach out to the people to get the needed feedback on programmes and activities of the Assembly for better policy direction and decision.
He expressed his utmost diligent for the opportunity given him to serve the Assembly and the people of Kumasi indicating that his primary objective was to work with all relevant stakeholders in the city to promote the development of the metropolis.
Mayor Bonsu announced that the Tafo cemetery was going to be fenced by KMA.
Participants at the forum made suggestions and submissions on how to promote development in the Tafo sub-metro.
Submission and suggestions were on sanitation, healthcare, road network, schools, private toilet facilities, encroachment on sanitation sites and lorry parks in the sub-metro.
Some Zongo chiefs who were present at the forum expressed concern about the poor road network in the Zongo communities and appealed to the Mayor and the KMA to address the sanitation.
Some participants also called for the rehabilitation of Tafo town roads to facilitate free movement of human and vehicular traffic.
They also appealed to the KMA to provide more refuse containers at refuse collection sites to ensure frequent disposal of waste by the people.
They explained that if this was done it would go a long way to minimize indiscriminate littering and dumping of waste into drains.
