Mayor of Kumasi Launches Youth Climate Action Fund to Empower Young Innovators
The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Samuel Pyne has on Wednesday May 22, 2024 launched a Youth Climate Action (YCA)Fund, a trailblazing initiative aimed at harnessing the creativity and innovation of young groups to confront climate change crisis head-on.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, has established a 50,000USD fund to support talented young residents in groups aged 15-24 who have innovative proposals to address the climate crisis.
Purpose of Initiative
The initiative, according to Hon. Samuel Pyne would seek to empower young groups to become climate leaders and crusaders by providing them with the resources and support needed to turn their ideas into reality whiles addressing climate change crisis in Kumasi and its environs.
Impact on Climate Change
The Youth Climate Action (YCA) Fund aims to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change in Kumasi and beyond.
By supporting innovative projects and initiatives led by young groups, he said would contribute to promote sustainable practices and behaviours towards the use of renewable energy sources.
Additionally, he added that, the YCA Fund would help to enhance climate resilience and adaptation and support climate education and awareness.
Accessing the Fund
To access the Youth Climate Action Fund, the Mayor announced that, interested young groups should from May 22,2024 visit www.kma.gov.gh,select Media Center from the Menu Bar (Navbar),then select Press Release from the Media Center drop down list, click on MICROGRANTAPPLICATION WEBSITE to download the application form for free.
Upon completion of application forms, the Mayor directed that, they could be submitted online through info@kma.gov.gh or in person at the Development Planning at KMA Main Office located in Adum before June 27,2024.
He added that, a panel of experts would review applications and select the most innovative and impactful proposals, after which successful applicants would receive funding to implement their projects.
Span of the Fund:
Hon. Samuel Pyne announced that the Youth Climate Action Fund would run from now to September, 2024, with the possibility of extension based on performance and impact, adding that, the KMA would stand to qualify for additional 100,000USDafter impactful performance.
Advice for the Youth
"To the young people of Kumasi, I urge you to take advantage of the Youth Climate Action Fund and be part of the solution to the climate crisis.
You are the future leaders and change-makers, and we need your energy, creativity, and passion to address the climate challenges we face. Apply for the fund, get involved, and let's work together to build a sustainable and resilient Kumasi for all", the Mayor advised.
