MINISTRY OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT TRAINS KMA MEMBERS
The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development (MLGDRD),in collaboration with the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS),conducted a two-day orientation and training programme for Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) members.
Heldon October 11-12, 2024, at the Royal Lamerta Hotel in Kumasi, the programmeaimed to equip 60 assembly members, both elected and government appointees with skills and knowledge for effective governance and development in their electoral areas.
KMA Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Dwira-Darko, emphasized the need to educate assembly members on their mandate to contribute meaningfully to the assembly’s development.
He stressed that capacity building would make them more effective, decision-makers, and impactful community leaders.
Mr. Dwira-Darko also encouraged assembly members to uphold integrity, accountability, and transparency.
The facilitator, Mr. Oppong Mensah, former Chief Director of MLGDRD, led the orientation and training on Ghana’s Decentralization Policy, Local Governance System, Assembly Members Roles,
Local Government Laws, Model Standing Orders, Revenue Mobilization, Job Creation, Leadership Ethics, and Transparency among other important notes. Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong, KMA Presiding Member, and Metro Coordinating Director, expressed gratitude to MLGDRD at the end of training programme and promised to improve their performance after knowledge acquired.
