Statistics
1. BACKGROUND
The Statistics Department was first created when the Metropolitan Statistician was posted to KMA in February, 2006. The Department recognizes that effective planning is predicated on informed decisions and choices, with specific targets and quantifiable goals, the achievement and monitoring of which require statistical information.
In line with the decentralized planning system, emphasis is currently being placed on strengthening the Statistical Department of the Metropolitan Assembly, to provide a variety of statistical services to meet the growing needs of the Assembly and other stakeholders.
2. MISSION
To make timely and relevant statistics available to the KMA and the broad spectrum of users, for the promotion of good governance and sound business decisions.
3. MAJOR PROGRAMMES FOR THE YEAR 2011
The major programmes planned for the year include:
- Business Census
- Fee Fixing Resolution
- Project Impact Analysis
- Training in Statistical Software
3.1. BUSINESS AND INDUSTRIALCENSUSES
The surest way to actualize KMAâ""s long held aspiration of a vibrant Metropolitan Assembly that possesses the financial and human capacities to serve as the â""engineâ"" for the advancement of the people of Kumasi, is a business research database that can identify the various informal-sector groups as well as individual business operators and also inform policy makers on sustainable interventions to adopt.
3.2. FEE FIXING RESOLUTION
In collaboration with relevant departments Statistics Department provides indicators for the design of annual Fee Fixing Resolutions
3.3 PROJECT IMPACT ANALYSIS
Project Impact Analysis (PIA) Project is a research oriented monitoring process. This involves collecting data and monitoring ongoing, executed and recent programs of the Assembly. It requires a lot of resources both Human and Financial Resources.
