Metropolitan census report for Kumasi disseminated

The metropolitan census report prepared using data from the 2010 Population and Housing Census (PHC ) has been disseminated at a workshop in Kumasi recently.

Prepared by staff of the metropolitan assembly with guidance from consultants and the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), the report provides basic demographic and socioeconomic information about the metropolis.

The workshop was attended by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Presiding member, assembly members, heads of department at the KMA and media practitioners.

Opening the workshop, the Kumasi Mayor, Mr. Kojo Bonsu, said the metropolitan analytical report for the KMA was one of the 216 district census reports aimed at makingdata available to the planners and decision makers at the district level.

He said conclusions and recommendations drawn from the district report were expected to serve as a basis for improving the quality of life of Ghanaians through evidenced-based decision - making, monitoring and evaluation of developmental goals and intervention programmes.

Mr. JoshuaTetteh of the Planning Department of the KMA in a presentation said the population of Kumasi metropolis is about 1,730,249 comprising 826,479 males and903,770 females representing 36.2 percent of the Ashanti regions total population.
