KMA Receives Motorbikes

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has received nine Yamaha motorbikes from the Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) as part of efforts to improve sanitation in the Metropolis.

According to the Project officer for (WSUP), Mr Samuel Owusu Agyei, the Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor has supported KMA to develop a compound sanitation strategy, which among other objectives seek to increase access to compound toilets and market for 100,000 low-income residents in Kumasi by 2019.

He said, as part of the implementation of the compound sanitation strategy, the Environmental Health Unit of the Assembly needed to reach individual homes to educate them on the need to have a compound toilet.

To this end, the motor bikes were supposed to be given to the Environmental Health Officers in the nine (9)sub-metros to reach out to the community.

Receiving the donation, the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Kojo Bonsu was thankful for the gesture and promised that the motorbikes would be efficiently used for the purpose intended. He,therefore, urged the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the Assembly to insure all the motorbikes before they were distributed amongst the nine sub-metro councils.
