KMA mobilizes GHS 21.2 million in revenue

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) had since the beginning of this year mobilized a total of GHS 21,204,978.54 as its internally-general fund (IGF), representing 72 per cent of the targeted revenue.
The Assembly’s target for the 2016 financial year was GH 29,596,267.00.
Mr. John Alexander Ackon, Ashanti Regional Minister and the acting Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), attributed the failure in meeting the Assembly’s revenue target to the inability of companies contracted to collect revenue to perform their duties as expected.
Addressing a general assembly meeting of the KMA in Kumasi,he said it had consequently, decided to abrogate its contract with those companies for failing to honour their obligations.
On the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF), Mr. Ackon said the first, second and third allocations of the Fund totalled GHS 5,507,615.08, and representing 64 per cent of the Assembly’s expected allocation for this year had been received.
The Assembly had also received GHS 2,036,525.00 as District Development Fund (DDF) as of September this year, while Urban Development Grant(UDG) stood at GHS 20,592,419.78 within the same period.
Mr. Ackon pointed out that all projects under the UDG I, II and III had been completed except the Amankwatia School Library which was about 60 per cent.

In addition, the UDG Secretariat at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development had given approval to the Assembly for the construction of a 400-metre length open storm drain on the Akwatialine-Aboabo stream to forestall flooding in the area.
The Regional Minister noted that implementation of the Annual Action Plans derived from the Medium-Term Development Plan for 2014-2017 under the Ghana Shared Growth and Development Agenda II was in progress.
It, amongst others, seeks to ensure infrastructural and human settlement development, productivity and employment, natural resource management, as well as transparent, responsive and accountable governance.
