KMA ELECTS NEW PRESIDING MEMBER

The Nhyiaeso Assembly member, Hon. Abraham Boadi has been elected as the new Presiding Member(PM) for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). At the General Assembly meeting held on Tuesday 14th February 2017 to elect a Presiding Member for the Assembly, Hon. Boadi who was the sole candidate who picked nomination form polled 110 Yes votes against 20 No Votes.

The election of Hon. Boadi as the new PM to succeed the immediate-past PM, Nana Adu Mensah Asare, the Amakomhene, was greeted with joy at the TUC Conference Hall in Kumasi.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Boadi said that he would unite the assembly members to ensure a very swift and effective development of Kumasi. He appealed to the elected Assembly members and government appointees to come together and champion the development agenda of the city saying "there is no elected or appointed Assembly Member we are all one."

The Supervising High Court Judge, Nicholas Abodakpi, who sworn in the newly elected PM also inaugurated 40 out of the 44 government appointees, which included five prominent chiefs nominated by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to represent the traditional authority. As part ofthe swearing-in ceremony Hon. Abraham Boadi and the newly appointed Assembly members took the oath of office and secrecy.

At the same meeting, the KMA was able to elect two members of the Assembly, Hon. Abraham Boadi and Hon Kwabena Owusu Dwomoh, a government appointee, to represent the Assembly on the Regional Electoral College to elect the Ashanti Regional representative to the council of state.
