ASSEMBLY MEMBERS OF KMA BENEFIT FROM TRAINING WORKSHOP

Assembly members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly[KMA] have benefited from a three - day training workshop aimed at refreshing and upgrading their knowledge in the management of Assembly business.

Among other objectives, the workshop sought to evolve a coordinated working relationship and teamwork spirit for effective engagement to reposition the KMA, expose leadership to the new issues in local governance and the direction of central government to enable them reposition themselves for efficiency and optimum performance in the Assembly system.

Organized by the KMA, the training workshop brought together participants to discuss and share best practices and experiences.

Resource persons, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, Dean of Graduate Studies at the Local Government studies, Mr. Fredrick Agyarko Oduro,Head of Department for Urban and Environmental Management at the Institute of Local Government Studies and Gladys Tetteh, the Deputy Director for the Centre of Local Government Advocacy, took turns to lecture and educate participants on topics like the Local Government System and Decentralization in Ghana, the Legal Framework for Local Government in Ghana, the Local Governance Act,2016[Act 936] Role and Responsibilities of members, key officers and bodies of assemblies among others.

Opening the workshop, the Ashanti Regional Minister,Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah urged participants to make the most use of the workshop.

"it is my conviction that these three days will be effectively utilized so that at the end of it all, you will be the first to admit that the workshop has not being a wasted effort", he said.

He admonished Assembly members to eschew rumor mongering saying there existed channels of communication in any bureaucracy and that must be respected.

"if you want facts and clarification on any issue please contact the appropriate quarters and refrain from using the media to peddle rumors or churning out untruths to the public", he advised.
