PRINCESS ANNE VISITS KUMASI
The Princess was welcomed at the Kumasi International Airport by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah and his deputy Mrs. Elizabeth Agyemang , Hon. Osei AssibeyAntwi the Kumasi Mayor, and a number of chiefs from the Manhyia palace led by the Akyempimhene Oheneba Adusei-Poku and other government officials.
The Princess Royal paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace where a durbar of chiefs was organized in her honour.
The Asantehene in a speech described the Princess as hardworking person and lauded her desire to assist and empower women. He took note of the long standing relationship between the two royal families describing it as fruitful and beneficial. He urged citizens of both countries to take advantage of such goodwill.
The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Jon Benjamin who spoke on behalf of Princess Anne thanked Otumfuo and Asanteman for the singular honour and warm welcome accorded the Princess and her entourage. According to him, the Princess Royal’s visit was to undertake a wide-ranging programme that builds on her previous visits in 1998 and 2011, which focuses on empowering women who act as role models for others, exploring the importance of support for girls, female education and entrepreneurs in delivering Ghana’s future.
He paid tribute to the late Queenmother of Asante, Nana AfiaKobiSerwaaAmpemII and expressed admiration for the smooth transition and enstoolment of the 14th Queen of Asante.
The Princess and her entourage later visited God’s Heritage Academy at AhenemaKokoben, an institution that the British Monarch supports to train children and to enhance the economic muscles of adults through the collaboration of Sinapi Aba Financial Trust, a subsidiary of Opportunity International, UK.
The Kumasi Wesley College of Education was the last place where the Princess visited and interacted with the trainees of teachers on the T-Tell Project, a project that seeks to transform abstract teaching in schools and make it more practical through interaction.
