
OSEI ASSIBEY ANTWI INDUCTED INTO OFFICE AS MCE OF KMA
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s nominee forthe Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Hon. Osei AssibeyAntwi has been inducted into office by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon.Simon Osei-Mensah as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of KMA at a briefceremony at the Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi.
The swearing in of Hon. Osei Assibey into officefollowed his successful confirmation by the members of the KMA recently.
In his remarks, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah indicated tothe MCE that given the high level of confidence reposed in him by thePresident, Nananom and the KMA that confirmed his appointment, there was theneed for him to do everything possible not to disappoint them“to be able toeffectively achieve this, you have to work hard to win the support andcooperation of the people you serve notably the traditional authorities,members of the Assembly, the media, heads of departments and civil societyorganizations and other stakeholders,” he advised.
The Regional Minister reminded Hon. Osei Assibey ofthe challenges facing the Kumasi Metropolis in the areas of sanitation, humanand vehicular congestion, drainage and floods among others and said theserequired urgent attention.
He further drew attention of the MCE to theimplementation of the Local Governance Act 936 of 2016 and LI 1961 currently inforce and which imposed greater responsibilities on metropolitan, municipal anddistrict chief executives (MMDCEs) to supervise staff of decentralizeddepartments which were now departments of the Assembly and were therefore underdirect supervision of the MCE.
Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah commended assembly members ofthe KMA for the support and cooperation they demonstrated during the meeting toconfirm the MCE and expressed the hope that goodwill and trust would betranslated into good working relationship for the good of the KumasiMetropolis.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwithanked the President for nominating him for the post of MCE.
He was also thankful to the Asantehene, the KumasiTraditional Council, the Regional minister and his deputy and assembly membersfor their support during the transition period.
He called for the total support and cooperation ofall stakeholders to enable him to address the challenges facing the KumasiMetropolis.
