

KUMASI MAYOR CALLS ON UNIT COMMITTEE OF KMA TO SUPPORT ASSEMBLY
He cited, for instance the revenue mobilization activities of the Assembly, which had been a major challenge and charged the Unit Committees to be responsible for assisting the Assembly in this direction.
He was speaking at the swearing-in of 92 Unit Committees of the KMA at a ceremony in Kumasi.
Unit Committees are essential substructures of the country’s decentralization and local governance system and perform functions such as assisting in revenue mobilization, organize communal and voluntary works, educate the people on their rights, privileges, obligations and responsibilities, monitor the implementation of self-help and development projects among others
The Kumasi Mayor described the swearing-in of the committee members as important given the background that the members had not been sworn-in to carry out their mandate effectively after their election, almost two years agofollowing KMA’s inability then, to elect its Presiding Member and put other structures of the Assembly in place.
Hon. Assibey commended the committee members for their patience all this while and hoped they would deliver on their mandate.
He spoke of an orientation programme to be organized by the KMA for the committee members and the provision of identification cards to help members in the discharge of their duties in their respective communities.
The nine Sub- Metro councils also elected their Chairmen and secretaries at the ceremony
Supervising High Court Judge, His Lordship Justice Abodakpi performed the swearing-in ceremony.In totality, 460 Unit Committee members made up of five (5) elected members from the 92 electoral areas were sworn into office.
In attendance at the swearing-in ceremony were the Presiding Member of KMA, Mr. Abraham Boadi and the Metro Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Michael Ataogye and heads of department of the Assembly.
