MCE admonishes GTA, CNC to be development-oriented
He said it was expected of them to package their progammes in a manner that would attract more tourists and other investors to the country.
The CNC, he suggested, could develop a garden adorned with traditional trees such as ‘odum’ and nyamedua for educational, cultural and historical purposes.
Mr. Assibey Antwi indicated that the CNC could invite notable personalities such as the Asantehene to plant some of the trees, and added that they ought to work with the Forestry Research Institute of Ghana (FORIG) in the provision of planting materials.
He also tasked them to resolve to revive some cultural programmes such as ‘Anokyekrom’, an event that brought together various artistes to entertain the people.
The once-vibrant programme, which attracted people of diverse backgrounds to the CNC, had for some time now been halted.
Mr. Assibey Antwi, on tourism, stressed the need for the Authority to organize more training programmes for stakeholders in the hospitality industry.
This was critical to updating their knowledge on the changing dynamics of the tourism industry, particularly on customer care and customer relations, as well as proper maintenance culture.
The MCE decried the decline in tourism arrivals over the years, and challenged the two institutions to see to an improvement in this scenario.
He told them of the inauguration of the various sub-committees at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), saying the committees would be working effectively for socio-economic growth of the metropolis.
Mr. Assibey Antwi said relationship between the KMA and the two institutions had been long-standing, and said this would be strengthened for their mutual benefits.
Mr. Barima Asumadu Sackyi , the Director for Center for National Culture, Kumasi lauded the MCE for the visit. He also used the opportunity and called on the government to complete infrastructural projects started by ex-president J.A .Kufour which have been abandoned.
