Muslims in Kumasi receive food items for Ramadan feast

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah, on behalf of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Vice-President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Friday, June 9, 2017 donated some food items worth several thousands of Cedis to the Muslim community in the Region.
This was at the Kumasi Central Mosque, and the event had in attendance the Council of Zongo Chiefs and Ulamau, as well as a wide range of the Muslim leadership in the Region.
According to the Minister, similar donations would also be made to the Muslim community in all the 47 constituencies in the Region.
The donation was done in collaboration with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), represented by the Coordinating Director, Mr. Michael B. Ataogye, who stood in for the Mayor, Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi.

On hand to give moral support were some honourable assembly members and heads of departments at KMA
Items donated included 100 bags of rice, 50 boxes of sugar, 50 boxes of oil and 50 boxes of Lipton and an undisclosed amount of money to some of the Muslim elders.
In a speech, Mr. Osei-Mensah, said the government was grateful to the Muslim community for being supportive of its development programmes.
He reminded them that the Ramadan feast was holy, and, therefore, they should endeavour to use the occasion to promote peaceful co-existence.
Mr. Osei-Mensah indicated that the donation was the governmentâ??s widowâ??s mite to the Muslim community as they observed the holy month of Ramadan, hoping that the period would bring significant improvement in Ghanaâ??s development aspirations.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Muslim community, Sheikh Haroun Abdul-Mummin, the Regional Chief Imam, thanked the government for the gesture.
He explained that the Ramadan feast was a holy period, and that they would observe its sanctity, while praying to the Almighty Allah to shower His blessings on the nation.
The community, he said, was praying fervently to Allah to have mercy on the leadership of the nation as He guides them to be focused in their efforts to alleviate poverty, hunger and also engender good health amongst the people.
