4 ABOBOYAA OPERATORS SENTENCED TO POLCE CUSTODY FOR ONE â??MONTH
Four out of the seven persons arrested by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for dumping waste at unauthorized places in the metropolis have been prosecuted and sentenced to one â??month detention in police cells.
Her Ladyship Mrs. Doreen Smith Arthur who presided over the Asokwa District Court 2, sentenced the tricycle (Aboboyaa) waste service operators.
They include Kwadwo Abadi, Stephen Ampong, Karim Mohammed and Ishau Abukom. They were found guilty for dumping waste at an unauthorized area near the Golden Tulip Hotel, Kumasi City.
The court are also the convicts to sweep and collect waste in the metropolis under the supervision of the Environmental Health Unit of the KMA on daily basis.
They were also bonded one-year not to dispose refuse indiscriminately or face five months imprisonment term.
One Kofi Anane, who was also arrested at Dichemso, has been remanded and he is to re-appear before the court on 21st August, 2017.
The sanitary offenders were arrested through the vigilance and firm assistance from residents of the city.
Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, the Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has met the tricycle (Aboboyaa) operators and advised them to desist from dumping waste at unapproved sites metropolis.
He said though they (Aboboyaa) assist the KMA by clearing the waste in the metropolis, they have to dispose of the waste at the land fill site, which is the approved area for final disposal of waste.
Hon. Osei Assibey also encouraged them (Aboboyaa) to register the motorbikes and also obtain license before using them to operate their businesses.
