President Akufo-Addo has fulfilled the long dreams of Ghana's forefathers.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, has disclosed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has fulfilled the dreams of the country's forefathers with the introduction of the Free Senior High School. Hon. Osei Assibey says, it was the dream of former Presidents to introduce it and the President has fulfilled the dreams of the forefather's. The Mayor of Kumasi has therefore encouraged students at the Junior High Schools in the Metropolis to study hard to also benefit from the policy in the next academic year.                                      

The launch of the Free Senior High School which was a major campaign message by the then opposition NPP has been welcomed by a number of Ghanaians especially parents who hitherto would have found it difficult to send their wards to Senior High Schools due to the high cost involved. 

The President has received commendation for fulfilling the promise which starts this academic year. In the view of the Metro Chief Executive for Kumasi, the forefathers of the country envisaged a time where all Ghanaian students will have access to free education. To this end, the President's fulfillment of the long cherish dream of the forefathers needs to be commended and supported by all. Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, has therefore encouraged pupils in basic schools in the metropolis to study hard to also get good grades and enroll in Senior High Schools in the next academic year. According to the Chief Executive Officer, there cannot be a wealthy country with less educated citizens. It therefore behooves on students to study hard as government also works to improve on teaching and learning conditions with the needed infrastructure and a well-motivated teaching staff.

The Mayor of Kumasi was speaking to journalist after visiting some selected schools within the Kumasi Metro on the occasion of the annual My First Day at School. The visit to the schools was to afford the Mayor the opportunity to encourage the pupils to study hard and also learn at first hand some of the challenges facing the schools and how best the Assembly in collaboration with the Ministry of Education can help resolve it. One major challenge identified was the dwindling number of school pupils in such schools which was attributed to lack of the school feeding programme. Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi stated that the government is working assiduously to ensure that all schools have the feeding programme to encourage the pupils to stay in school.    

The Metro Education Director, Alexander Atta Antwi confirmed that the numbers of pupils in schools without the school feeding keeps dwindling whiles schools with the feeding programme have high number of pupils.         Some school pupils whose uniforms were torn or had no uniforms at all were presented with new school uniforms. The Metro Chief Executive also gave out books, pencils and other learning materials to pupils in all the schools visited. Amongst the schools visited included St. Mary's Anglican Basic, Amakom Abrotia Basic and K. O. Methodist schools.
