KMA partners KNUST to beautify Kumasi
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has presented a cheque for Gh¢ 66,950.00 to the authorities of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to beautify and green the metropolis. KNUST presented a proposal to the Assembly in 2017 quoting the said amount as the money required to green some road medians in Kumasi.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi subsequently made an appeal to some corporate bodies to assist in the beautification project. The National Investment Bank responded positively and gave out the whole amount of Gh¢ 66,950.00 to the Assembly to green and beautify the city. The MCE in the company of some heads of Department of the Assembly has duly handed over the cheque to KNUST to kick start the beautification and greening exercise.
Hon. Osei Assibey expressed his delight to KNUST for the initiative in supporting his drive to green and beautify Kumasi. “We all have a role to play in greening the Metropolis which has lost its accolade as the Garden City of West Africa." Hon. Osei Assibey indicated his desire to bring back that accolade but stressed that all have to support his dream to make it a reality. The Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. Obiri Danso thanked the Mayor for accepting the proposal from the University and the swift response with the needed money to actualize the greening and beautification project. He assured the Mayor the money would be used for the intended purpose. The beautification and greening exercise will see the planting of flowery plants, short shrubs and other ornamentals along the road medians from Oduom Roundabout to Asafo. The exercise is expected to start in February and end in June 2018. KNUST is hopeful after the first phase, other corporate bodies will support the KMA to green and beautify all the medians and ceremonial roads in the Kumasi Metropolis.
