
ASSEMBLY’S GOVERNANCE STRUCTURES NOW FULLY IN PLACE
The Kumasi Mayor, Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi has noted with interest that the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s Local Governance structures being the General Assembly, the Metropolitan Authority (Executive Committee) and its 12 Sub-Committees which now included the Trade and Industry Sub-Committee and the Youth and Sports Development Sub-Committee had been put in place for the smooth running of the Assembly.
He said in terms of the Sub-structures, the Nine Sub-Metropolitan District Councils as they were then were duly constituted and inaugurated between 18th and 19th May 2017 and the Councilors and key staff given an orientation on their roles and responsibilities on 25th July 2017by the Office of the Head of Local Government Service led by Dr. Ing. Nana Ato Arthur, the Head of Local Government Service.
Mr. Assibey Antwi who was addressing the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s first Ordinary Meeting of the third session of the seventh Assembly in Kumasi last Tuesday also said the 92 Unit Committees were jointly inaugurated on the 2nd May 2017 while the 21 Town Councils across the Metropolis were also constituted and inaugurated on 23rd October 2017 at the Regional Coordinating Council.
The Kumasi Mayor said to equip members for the execution of their prescribed roles, a three (3) day training programme was organized by the management of KMA for all Assembly members.
He talked about the creation of additional administrative Units and desks in 2017 namely Sister-City Relations desk, Investment and Tourism desk, Public Affairs and Communication Directorate and Revenue the Department.
Mr. Assibey Antwi commented on the five new Municipalities carved out of the Kumasi Metropolis and said the necessary arrangements in respect of the office accommodation, human resource and logistics were being vigorously pursued by the KMA to enable a smooth takeoff.
According to him, some basic furniture and office equipment from the Central Government had been delivered to the respective Municipal Assemblies which would for now operate from the hitherto Sub-Metropolitan District Council offices and rented premises until permanent office blocks were put up for them.
The Mayor’s sessional address which presented 2017 into retrospect as well as an outlook for 2018 in all Assembly’s key performance areas touched on governance, disaster management, revenue and finance, court cases and judgment debts sanitation and waste management, human resource management, trade and industry among others.
