FIGHTING BED BUGS---KMA TAKES LEAD.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly is taking steps in fighting bed bugs infestations in Senior High Schools within the Metropolis.
An extensive fumigation exercise of all the SHSs in Kumasi is being undertaken by the KMA and the National Disaster Management Organization.
Amongst the schools that have since been fumigated are Opoku Ware, Kumasi Girls, Kumasi Secondary Technical, Serwaa Nyarko Girls and Kumasi High.
Others include Prempeh College T. I AMASS and St. Hubert’s Seminary. The exercise has seen the fumigation of all the dormitories of the schools and the beds in all the dormitories.
According to the KMA NADMO Coordinator, Frank Kwadwo Duodu, the exercise has become necessary due to the numerous complaints received from the authorities of the schools about the increasing rates of the bug’s infestation.
“We had several reports about the bed bugs and we took a decision with the Metro Education Unit to fumigate all the schools as the schools are on vacation".
He however explained that this will not be the final exercise as a more extensive one will be carried out during the long vacation to completely get rid of the bed bugs.
The Senior House Master for T. I AMASS, Ahmed Kwaku Boampong admitted the school is battling the bed bugs. He said as school authorities they have fumigated the school on some occasions but the bugs keep recurring.
He was hopeful with the exercise being undertaken by KMA, the infestations will be a thing of the past in the schools.
