KMA to embark on flood city with dustbins project
In an effort to sustain the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly's sanitation drive, the Assembly is to embark on a project to place dustbins at strategic points within the metropolis.
The city authorities say with the dustbins dotted across the metropolis, residents will have no excuse of indiscriminate littering.
The Kumasi Metropolis generates about 1,500 tonnes of waste on daily basis.
The Assembly is able to collect about 90 percent of the waste generated. However, the Assembly is still battling with indiscriminate littering despite sensitisations to keep the city clean.
Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Osei Asibbey Antwi believes placing more dustbins at strategic points within the city will support the education that the Assembly is embarking on.
He explained that with dustbins placed in the metropolis, residents will not have any excuse to litter indiscriminately.
Mr. Osei Asibbey said improving sanitation is a shared responsibility and appealed to corporate bodies to support the “Keep Kumasi Clean and Green Project”.
Meanwhile as part of activities marking the 10th Anniversary celebrations of VIP Transport Company Ltd, the company has donated a waste compactor truck and four tricycles (Aboboya) to KMA to augment their waste equipment.
General Manager of VIP Transport Ltd, Adakabre Frimpong Manso explained that the company transports about 5000 passengers monthly and these passengers contribute to waste generation in Kumasi hence the donation.
He assured passengers of safety on the buses and debunked recent media reportage of increasing accidents involving VIP buses.
According to him, some other transporters have branded their buses VIP and tarnishing their image.
