KAM supports persons with disability

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has presented tools, equipment and money to over 50 persons with disability (PWD) in the metropolis to equip them economically and support them to engage in start-up business.

The items included 30 commercial sized freezers , industrial sewing machines ,laptops, photocopiers ,printers cartridge ,pendrives , embroidery machines, industrial netting machines, voltage Guards , desktop computers and binding machines all amounting to Gh¢136,310.20. Apart from the items purchase various cheques have been issued to the tune of GH¢200.130 the beneficiaries.

Presenting the items Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) said the presentation was in fulfilment of Section 7 of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) Act, 1993 ( Act 455) which specifies that two percent of the DACF should be collected to persons with disability .

He noted that the aim of the DACF for persons with disability is reduce poverty among all PWD particularly those outside the formal sector of employment and enhance their social image through dignified labour.

Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, said the Assembly received a total sum of GH¢356.715.44 for the 4th quarter of 2016 and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2017.

He said it was out of this that the items were procured and the cash disbursed. 

He pleaded with the beneficiaries to make good use of the assistance they have been offered. According to him the Assembly will monitor the beneficiaries and access their performance and if there is the need add any assistance the Assembly will provide.

The Kumasi Metro. President for the Ghana Federation of Disability, Prince Debrah, on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked government for a quick response and promised to make good use of the equipment and cheques given them.
