Ghana needs peace for sustainable growth and development – Mayor

The Kumasi  Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE),Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, has congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of the Ramadan feast, saying they should strive to promote peace and good neighborliness.

 “Ghana, above all things, needs peace to enable every citizen to go about his or her legitimate duties unhindered”, he told a congregation of Ahmaddiyya followers on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr, in Kumasi.

He reminded the congregation to uphold the sanctity of the feast by renewing their faith, while cleansing their souls of bad practices likely to bring their reputation into disrepute.

“Indeed, the day is meant to symbolize the acceptance of worshipful obedience, the remission of sins and mistakes and the conversion of bad deeds to good deeds”, he told the people.

He asked the congregation to continue to show love to one another especially the needy in the society and live in harmony and honour all obligations to the state and the community in which they live.

The Mayor entreated Imams and Elders of the Muslim community to maintain close collaboration with authorities in the region as the government made efforts to build a stronger nation.

They should also be involved in peace campaigns by the state to stem criminal activities in all their forms.

Mr. Assibey Antwi was appreciative of the support by Muslims to see the successful implementation of government’s development programmes and projects to alleviate the plight of Ghanaians.   

Maulvi Abdul Hamid Tahir, advised Muslims to continue to forgive one another for the wrongs committed in order to create a congenial atmosphere in the country.

In a related development, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah, has entreated all Ghanaians to be law-abiding and patriotic.

Addressing thousands of Muslims at the Kumasi Central Mosque on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr, he said nation-building hinged on discipline and honesty, and for this reason, it was the duty of all and sundry to remain committed to the cause of the nation.  

Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun, the Regional Chief Imam, lauded the government for the various pro-poor policies it had rolled out for the benefit of the poor and needy in the society.

He cited restoration of the nurses’ allowances, free senior high school policy, amongst others, as a commitment by the Presidency to transform the lives of the people for the better.

Sheikh Haroun said it was imperative for Muslims to live in harmony with all other religious groups to engender unity in the country.
