KMA salutes graduating JHS students for successfully completing BECE

The 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has come to a successful end at the Kumasi metropolis, with a caution to the graduating students to be disciplined and always lead morally upright lives.

Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), reminded the students that a lot of investment had been made in them, concerning their educational and career development.

They should, therefore, be serious in life, he said, and advised them to shun drug abuse, promiscuous lifestyles and other practices likely to be detrimental to their proper upbringing.

Mr. Assibey Antwi, addressing some jubilant candidates at the Asanteman Senior High School (SHS) Centre in Kumasi, upon the completion of the Social Studies paper, the last paper written at this year’s BECE, lauded the students for their hard work.

“The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and the Educational Directorate salute you for having completed the exams successfully”, he noted.

In all, 24, 513 candidates sat for the exams, comprising 11, 690 males and 12, 823 females, representing an increase over last year’s total number of 22, 840.

The MCE expressed delight at the dwindling number of pregnant female candidates in the metropolis over the last two years, saying this was as a result of comprehensive sensitization done by the Assembly’s Education sub-Committee, headed by Mr. Samuel Amankwaah, the Convener.

“We are all happy that our female students are finding the need to embrace education for their own benefit”, he noted.

Mr. Assibey Antwi assured that the Assembly would continue to be supportive of programmes tailored to enhance the literacy level amongst the youth in order to raise their standard of living in future.

Ms. Monica Ankrah, the Metro Director of Education, advised the graduating students to strive to choose second-cycle institutions within their catchment.
