
BASIC SCHOOLS BENEFIT FROM "MY FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL”
Some schools in the Kumasi Metropolis received basic amenities for schooling as part of the exercise dubbed, ‘My First Day at School’ on Monday 17th September, 2018. The exercise was led by the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi and the Metropolitan Director of Education, Mrs. Martha Owusu Agyemang, which involved the visiting of Danyame MA, Santasi MA, Adumanu MA, New Tafo-Dichemso MA and Najahiya Islamic Basic School.
Speaking to the pupils and teachers at the various schools, the Metropolitan Director of Education explained the importance of formal education and advised the pupils to allocate more of their time to their books and minimize their time being spent on watching television. Items which include exercise books, sandals, pens and pencils were shared to the various basic schools.
According to Mrs. Agyemang, “by studying hard, you would be able to achieve your goals in the future and pursue your career choice. Parents and guardians must also play an active role in ensuring their wards have a good education.”
Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi commended some of the schools for their tidy compounds and seized the opportunity to introduce the ‘Keep Kumasi Clean and Green campaign.’ The mayor mentioned that, "living and studying in a clean environment is the best for education. The observance of ‘My First Day at School’ is an initiative by the government of Ghana and we are here to welcome the newly admitted students and pupils to school, on behalf of the President; His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the Minister of Education Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.”
My First Day at School exercise is an annual exercise which is done to welcome newly admitted pupils into Kindergarten, primary 1 as well as the form one students of Junior High. The exercise is a way to motivate and improve the lives of students and pupils in basic schools for better education.
