KMA receives approval to complete Krofrom Market
The Kumasi MetropolitanAssembly (KMA) has received a ‘No Objection’ from the Ministry of Finance tocontract a loan from the Fidelity Bank Ghana Limited for the completion of theKrofrom Market project.
Consequently, theConsultant, Avangarde Design Services has met the contractors and they willsoon get back to project site.
“It is with a big sighof relief that I report on the status of the infamous Krofrom Market project,” Mr.Osei Assibey-Antwi, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said, describingthe latest development as very encouraging given the long delay in completingthe project.
The project had stalledfor almost a decade now due to inadequate funds.
The Assembly, heexplained, was, therefore, in the process of finding suitable land for theproposed project.
The Seventh Assemblywas briefed on various development projects, programmes and policies undertakenby the KMA in 2018 to improve the living conditions of the people, as well aschallenges.
The Assembly’sdevelopment agenda for 2019 was also laid bare before the Assembly,encompassing socio-economic development, environment, infrastructure and humansettlement, governance, corruption and public accountability.
On Roads, Mr.Assibey-Antwi indicated that a total amount of 5, 663, 000 Ghana Cedis and 8,000, 003 were allocated for both routine and periodic maintenance works,respectively, for the year under review.
During the period, atotal of 15, 247 metres square of pothole area was patched within the variouslocations in the metropolis.
Additionally, 10kilometres of roads within the metropolis were also resealed.
The MCE, touching ontransport, hinted that the KMA’s Transport Department in the year under reviewwas selected as the pilot office for the implementation of the SmartCities/Smart Office Concept of the Ghana Investment Fund for the ElectronicCommunications (GIFEC) under the Ministry of Communication.
“The Assembly iscurrently taking steps for the smooth implementation of this project,” hestated.
