AIRTEL-TIGO PARTNERS KMA TO PROMOTE EDUCATION
Managementof Airtel-Tigo, a telecommunications company, has paid a courtesy call on theMayor of Kumasi, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, to strengthen ties between thecompany and Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) for development purposes.
Thevisit, amongst others, was to share development experiences, especially in thearea of education, environmental sanitation and infrastructural growth.
Additionally,they were there to also introduce their new management, and strike partnershipwith the Assembly to improve quality education in the metropolis in line withthe company’s corporate social responsibility
Mr.Emmanuel Agyei, Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer, who led the delegation,congratulated the mayor for his immense efforts made so far to lift the face ofKumasi for the better since his assumption as Chief Executive of the Assembly.
Oneducational achievements, he noted that Airtel-Tigo had been able to constructschool blocks for some districts including Obuasi, Banda-Nkwanta and others,and that they were ready to do same in Kumasi.
Inhis welcome speech, Hon. Osei Assibey applauded the team for their success inmerging the two telecommunication networks recently.
Hesaid the Assembly was keen in ensuring good quality education delivery in themetropolis, citing the works of the Education sub-Committee of the KMA and theMetropolitan Education Oversight Committee.
TheKMA, he said, was focused on constructing libraries and appealed to Airtel-Tigoto assist the Assembly furnish these libraries with books.
Hon.Osei Assibey emphasized the need for Airtel-Tigo to sponsor teachers in themetropolis to build their capacity for effective work.
Mostof the teachers, he said, ought to refresh and expand their scope of knowledge,to make up for the gaps resulting in their inability to undergo refreshercourses since completing the training colleges and other institutions oflearning.
OnSanitation, the Mayor was keen to add that since the KMA launched the operation“Keep Kumasi Clean and Green (KKCG)” last year, the City had witnessed positiveresults regarding indiscriminate littering and dumping of refuse.
Heappealed to the team to augment the efforts of the Assembly by supporting theKKCG project.
