KMA briefs traders on rentable values of Kejetia stores

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has entreatedtraders to be relocated to the newly-constructed Kejetia market to give theauthorities the needed support and cooperation for a smooth exercise.

Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, the Mayor of Kumasi, saidthe authorities would ensure transparency in the allocation of the Kejetiastores, giving the assurance that priority would be given to the affectedtraders who were resettled from the former Kejetia lorry terminal.

This also includes those to be affected by thesecond phase of the project at the Kumasi Central Market.

Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, who was addressing astakeholders’ forum on the Kejetia/Central Market Redevelopment project andassociated infrastructure, hinted that the first phase of the verificationexercise of traders had been completed.

“We are working seriously and with all relevantstakeholders to ensure that only those validated and deserving are allocatedstores at the new Market,” he said. 

The Mayor briefing the traders on the rentablevalues of the stores which ranged from 7, 800 to 48, 000 Ghana Cedis, heexplained that the mode of payment and related issues were being facilitated bythe Fidelity Bank Limited.

The Bank had been mandated to pay the premium onbehalf of traders who could not mobilize the amount to pay the initial premium.

He further explained that those who have money topay outright could do so, adding that the rental period was for five years.

In all, the completed first phase consists of 8, 420leasable commercial spaces, comprising 6, 490 lockable stores, 1, 420 counterstores and 60 food courts.

There are also 3, 700 square metres of communityfacilities, and other key facilities, including a public transport terminal,prayer room, bank agencies, fire and police stations, post office, crèche, fueland gas storage tanks, waste separation dock and sewage treatment station.

Nana Agyenim Boateng, Amoamanhene, representing theAsantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on the project, said the traders would wellbe catered for.
