Ghanaians must join hands to promote nation’s security – Mayor
Mr. Assibey-Antwi, who was addressing the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Kumasi, on the occasion of the 2019 ‘Eid-ul-Fitr’, said the safety and security of the people was a shared responsibility.
The government, he noted, was bent on preventing such violent attacks and for that reason, the security agencies had been put on high alert.
Mayor Assibey-Antwi explained that Ghana had a cherished historical record of being peaceful and that, it was the duty of all and sundry to come on board in protecting this enviable record.
‘Eid-ul-Fitr’ is a scared day on the Islamic almanac signifying the end of Ramadan (30 days of fasting and prayer),
and the congregation used the occasion to pray for peace and unity.
Led by Maulvi Hamid Tahir, Kumasi Zonal Head of the Mission, the Ahmaddis also prayed for the nation’s sustainable growth and development.
The Mayor lauded the Mission for being worthy partners of development since time immemorial.
“We are grateful as a nation to Ahmaddis for the numerous educational and health facilities constructed nationwide
for the benefit of the people,” he noted.
He stressed the need for all to live in religious harmony for tranquility to prevail in the Ghanaian society.
Maulvi Tahir tasked politicians to support efforts to end vigilantism in all its forms.
“The onus lies on us not to use muscular men (macho men) in intimidating innocent people or engage in acts whose consequences could spell doom for the nation,” the Ahmaddi Scholar said. He entreated Ghanaians to assist the leadership to help achieve the nation ‘s development aspirations.
