KMA CELEBRATES 35TH FARMERS DAY

On6th December 2019, Kumasi MetropolitanAssembly celebrated the 35th edition of farmers’ day at Amanfromwhich was attended by the Metropolitan Chief Executive Hon, Osei Assibey Antwi,the M.P for Subin Hon. Eugune Arhin and several stakeholders as well as farmersacross board. The occasion was chaired by Nana Osei Kwaku III, Chief ofAmanfrom and Otumfour -Saamanhene.

In his speech Hon OseiAssibey Antwi lauded Ghanaian farmers for their hard work and their efforttoward improving socio-economic growth of Kumasi and the nation as a whole.

He stated that thegovernment through its social intervention has undertaken several programs andintroduced packages targeted at giving the average Ghanaian farmer the neededsupport to expand their scale of production.

According to Hon. OseiAssibey Antwi, paramount among these programs is “Planting for Food and Jobs”which he said several farmers and other actors along the value chain hasimmensely benefitted from the various packages under the program. 

Hon. Osei Assibeymentioned that 9,657 tons of fertilizer has been distributed to 34,956 malefarmers and 5,613 female farmers in the course of the year through the numerousinput outlets in the Kumasi Metro at a subsidized rate.

In addition, there hasbeen free distribution of pesticides to farmers in the Kumasi Metropolis tocombat armyworm menace. “This has brought good business and increased the levelof income of beneficiary farmers and the input dealers alike”, the Mayor added.

Hon Osei Assibey Antwicalled on all Ghanaians to patronize food stuff produced locally and also cooperatewith Government in ensuring sustainable food security for all. The Amanfrom Prisonofficers received the best farmer award.
