KMA SIGNS MOU WITH MULTIMEDIA GROUP

The Kumasi MetropolitanAssembly (KMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with theMultimedia Group on Tuesday 19th November, 2019.

The MOU which seeks toeradicate filth and ensure proper sanitation practices in the metropolis, alsoseek to ensure the prosecution of sanitation related offences in a bid to bringback the past accolade of the city as the Garden City of West Africa.

The Metropolitan ChiefExecutive (MCE) of KMA, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, in a brief speech prior to thesigning of the MOU was full of appreciation to the Media in general for theimmense support it has given the KMA since the launch of “Operation Keep KumasiClean and Green (KKCG)” project and was particularly grateful to the MultimediaGroup for their extraordinary support.

According to him, the MOUwill go a long way to ensure that the Assembly achieves the SustainableDevelopment Goal (SDG) 6 and 11 which seeks to improve upon the quality ofClean Water and Sanitation and ensure the Sustainability of Cities andCommunities respectively.

Mr. James Aglah, theGeneral Manager of Multimedia Group noted that the Company realized the desireof the MCE to keep Kumasi clean and therefore decided to tap into thisheartbeat of him, most especially in the enforcement of the Assembly’s Bye-Lawson Sanitation, thus the launch of their LUV CLEAN CAMPAIGN to augment the KMA’sKeep the City Clean and Green campaign.

He hinted that JOY, asubsidiary of the Multimedia Group in Accra was emulating the campaign withAccra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) because they realized the success LUV hasmarked in Kumasi.

Director of WasteManagement at KMA, Mr. Prosper Kotoka reiterated the Assembly’s appreciation toMultimedia Group for coming on board to ensure the enforcement of theSanitation Drive of the Assembly. He said the ‘Name and Shame’ approach hasreally ensured that entities that channeled their sewage septic waste intogutters and drains as well as those operating on unhygienic environments amongothers, were named and shamed to serve as deterrent to others.

Kumasi is a business huband as such refuse pile up during the day especially within the   Central Business District. The KMA usesabout 40 to 50 percent of its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) in the collectionof waste in the CBD though the Assembly is always blamed, Mr. Samuel Donkor,the MCD of Kumasi underscored.

Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi(MCE) and Mr. Samuel Donkor (MCD) signed the MOU on behalf of the KMA whilstMr. James Aglah (GM-Multimedia Group) and Mr. Saeed Yakubu (Editor-NhyiraFM/Luv FM) did same on behalf of Multimedia Group.
