ANGEL GROUP, ABOA AND IRC GHANA SUPPORTS THE VULNERABLE IN KUMASI

Three institutions have donated assorted medical equipments and food items to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on Monday 18th May, 2020.

The institutions includes Angel Group of Companies who presented 10 branded Adonko Veronica buckets, 10 stands, 10 pieces of liquid soap,10 pieces of tissue paper and 10 dustbins. According to the representative, the donation to the KMA was from Dr. Kwaku Oteng, the Chief  Executive of Angel Group of Companies as part of his corporate social responsibility.

Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi who received the items thanked Dr. Kwaku Oteng for the gesture and disclosed that the items would be sent to all the big markets in the metropolis to improve their personal hygiene.

The Ashanti Business Owners Association(ABOA), also donated 10,000 pieces of nose mask, 5 pieces of Infrared thermometers and a cheque of GH¢40,000 to the KMA and Metro Health directorate.According to Mark Osei Boakye, the Executive Secretary of the Association, the gesture was to contribute their quota in the fight and the containment of the Corona Virus pandemic.

He consequently appealed to the government to extend its stimulus package to them and also negotiate with the banks on their behalf to give them some relief on loans to cushion their businesses.

The KMA boss, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi said he was grateful to the Association for the kind gesture and noted that the items would be handed over to the Metro health Directorate for onward distribution to the various health facilities.

Other Donation

IRC Ghana in partnership with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints also presented assorted food and medical items to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. According to Mr. Abu Wumbi, the Communications Director of IRC Ghana, the objective was to support the vulnerable within the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly who were identified during the partial lockdown with food items following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. He disclosed that the items presented to the KMA were for onward distribution to 500 households in the metropolis whose data had been captured by the KMA as being vulnerable. He added that the distribution would be done by the planning and social welfare department of the Assembly.

The items included 500 bags of 25 kg rice, 83 boxes of cooking oil, 104 boxes of canned fish, 104 boxes of tin tomatoes, 32 boxes of bar soap and 35 boxes of carbolic soap.

Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi who received the items said he was grateful to the IRC for the gesture. He recalled the enormous support of the IRC to the KMA in the area of Water, Sanitation and Liquid waste.

He consequently called on other religious bodies to emulate the gesture.
