KUMASI MAYOR TOURS SNR. HIGH SCHOOLS IN KUMASI

Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi and the Kumasi Metro Education Directorate have inspected some Senior High Schools in the Kumasi Metropolis on Monday June 22nd 2020 ahead of the government’s directive to re-open the schools to allow final year and gold track students continue their studies in the midst of the novel Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, the purpose of the visit was to find out if the school authorities had received the personal protective equipment (PPEs) brought by the government and their readiness to receive the students back to school.

He added that the visit was also to see how the school authorities were adhering to the guidelines and protocols on the deadly Corona virus.

Hon. Osei Assibey noted that earlier, the KMA had supplied Veronica buckets, washing basins, liquid soaps and sanitizers to all the Senior High Schools in the Kumasi Metropolis.

He subsequently charged the school authorities to ensure that the Veronica buckets were placed at vantage points within the school premises and also post notices on the social distance and mask wearing protocols in the schools.

Some schools the team visited included Opoku Ware School, Saint Hubert Seminary, Kumasi Senior High Technical School and Asanteman Senior High School.


At the Opoku Ware School, the school had a pavilion where students were screened with the thermometer gun, wash their hands and sanitize before they advance to the frontage of their boarding house to register and subsequently receive their bed number, sanitizers and nose mask.


The headmaster of the School, Rev.Fr. Stephen Owusu Sekyere said the school had taken delivery of all the logistics promised by the government. He added that accommodation arrangement had been planned such that 15 students would be in one dormitory, while the large classrooms would take a maximum of 30 students, and smaller ones, 25 students.


At Kumasi Senior High Technical School, students were marked with indelible ink after they had gone through the necessary screening, this according to authorities, would help them fish out any student who had not been screened.

At the Kumasi High School, the headmaster, Mr. Bernard Hall-Baidoo, said Veronica buckets, hand sanitizers and tissue paper had been placed at vantage points for students to access.

He said three nose masks and hand sanitizer would be made available to each student after they had registered.
