KUMASI SUB METROS UNIT COMMITTEE MEMBERS INAUGURATED BY KMA
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has inducted and sworn in Unit Committee members in the various Sub Metro’s which includes; Manhyia North, Manhyia South, Bantama, Subin and Nhyiaeso, under the strict enforcement of the Covid-19 health protocols and the Presidents directives.
At the Bantama Sub Metro, 39 Members from Eight Electoral areas were sworn in by Her Worship Akua Adu Boahene of the Asokwa Magistrate Court 1 at State Boys M/A Junior High School while Her Worship Alita Saeed of the Ash Town Magistrate court 2 swore in 36 Unit committee members from the Manhyia North and Manhyia South which 30 Unit Committee Members from 6 Electoral Areas was officiated by Her Worship Rose Marie Afua Asante of the Asokwa Court 3 which all was held on Wednesday the 24th day of June, 2020 at the CCC Assemblies of God church.
The Subin Sub Metro which is made up of 10 electoral areas was officiated by His Honour Abdul Razak Musah (KMA Circuit Court) whiles the Nhyiaeso Sub Metro was made up of 45 Unit committee members drawn from nine electoral areas which was also officiated by Her Worship Korko Achaw Owusu and they were carried through the same processes, all on 24th June, 2020.
The Mayor, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi addressing the inauguration ceremonial separately congratulated the Unit committee members on their election and reminded them of their four-year mandate to contribute to local level governance Act 936 of 2016.
It is the duty of Unit Committee members to take lawful steps to halt any nuisance, provide focal point for discussion of local problems and make recommendations to the Assembly where necessary through the relevant Urban, Zonal or Town Council. He said.
Hon. Osei Assibey explained that in this Covid-19 era, the Assembly expect the Unit Committee members to help educate the public on their rights, privileges and responsibilities. He advised them to command respect by leading exemplary lives, and be role models to the communities they represent on the local level governance structure. He touched on the upcoming voter’s registration exercise by advising the committee members to team up with Assembly members to educate members of their communities to move out and register, observing all the protocols under the covid-19 pandemic.
The Metro Chief Executive charged them to focus on improving sanitation in line with the Assembly’s resolution to ensure a healthy environment under its “Keep Kumasi Clean and Green” project. Incumbent on Unit Committee members should help correct the ills in society by visiting homes and report landlords who do not keep to good environmental hygiene practices.
The Mayor in his address challenged that as government continues to undertake various projects across the country to hasten development, members of the Unit Committees are expected to co-operate with other stakeholders and officers of the assembly and coordinate processes that will see to the completion and utilization of projects executed. He also entreats committee members to have a harmonious working relationship with the Honorable Assembly members so together, they can bring the needed development to the people they serve.
The presiding member of KMA, Hon. Stephen Ofori on his part asked the Unit committee members to use the administrative structures of the Assembly and not claim power to themselves to take decisions that could tarnish the image of KMA.
Mr. Akuamoah Boateng, the Metropolitan Co-Coordinating Director(MCD) also took them through some of their functions as Unit Committee members to enhance their operations in their communities.
