SANITATION MINISTRY HANDS OVER OTI LAND FILL SITE TO ZOOMLION
According to Mr. Anthony Mensah, Chief Director at the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, major works to be done at the site includes the reshaping of the slopes, preparing all the access roads and improving the liquid waste treatment facilities.
Additionally, he said the storm drains around the site and other remedial works will also be done to bring back the site to its original state.
He noted that the project, which is similar to the ongoing one at the Kpone Land fill site in Accra, is expected to be completed within 18 months and was being funded by the Central Government.
Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, Mayor of Kumasi in a brief remark expressed gratitude to the Central Government through the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources for coming to the aid of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly as well as the Asokwa Municipal Assembly.
According to him, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, for about 5 years now, has been using its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) to manage the site since the Assembly was removed from the national grid to manage its Waste, a situation that has burden the Assembly’s internally generated fund.
The Consultant to the project, EAP CONSULT LTD, hinted that their equipment being used for the project, would be handed over to the KMA after the completion of the project and commended the managers of the land fill site for their professionalism.
