GOVERNMENT EMBARKS ON PHASE TWO OF DISINFECTION EXERCISE IN KUMASI

The Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has embarked on the Phase Two of the nation-wide disinfection exercise in major markets and public places in Kumasi on Tuesday 21st July, 2020.

The exercise, which is being partnered by Zoomlion Ghana Limited, forms part of Government’s efforts in the fight against the novel Corona Virus since the Ashanti Region was identified as one of the hotspot of the pandemic in the country.

The disinfection exercise in Kumasi was preceded by an intensive cleaning exercise in the various 186 markets in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, the MCE of Kumasi in a statement said the KMA has been relentless in its efforts in ensuring a safe environment for residents.

TAccording to him, the KMA had been in continuous dialogue with residents and market women to ensure that the best results in safeguarding the health of all market users.

He noted that the phase one of the exercise which included an intensive cleaning exercise in all the markets in the region, produced more waste than the nominal records per the region’s waste generation capacity.

Hon.Osei Assibey Antwi disclosed that the KMA had distributed veronica buckets,soaps, masks, gloves, hand sanitizers and tissue papers to all schools and public gathering centers in the region, adding that, personal protective equipment to the tune of $58 million had been given to various private and public medical centers in the Ashanti region.

The Ashanti regional minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, who launched the exercise indicated that the move was part of government’s strategic and aggressive efforts in fighting the spread of the virus in the various regions of the country.
