STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATION ON THE PREPARATION OF A COVID-19 RECOVERY PLAN HELD IN KUMASI
The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has held a stakeholder consultation on the preparation of a Covid-19 recovery plan at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi on Tuesday 1st September, 2020.
The meeting which brought together selected individuals from the formal and informal sectors is envisaged to collate ideas on the assessment of the impact of the Corona Virus pandemic on the Kumasi Metropolitan Area and to facilitate the preparation of a Recovery Plan for selected MMDAs.
In his welcome address in a speech read on his behalf by Mr. Joseph Donkor, the Ashanti Regional Development Planning Officer, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah said it was heart warming to see that the NDPC and its partners were embarking on such an important exercise in this crucial time in the Kumasi Metropolis.
Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, the MCE of Kumasi in his opening remarks thanked the participants for honoring the invitation to participate in the important programme, which according to him showed their commitment towards ensuring the growth and development of Ghana and for that matter the Kumasi Metropolis.
He said the Assembly recognized the losses incurred by both businesses and families during the Covid-19 pandemic which underscored the need for such a stakeholder consultation.
He disclosed that the KMA was likely to lose about 30% of its projected revenue for 2020, a situation which would have dire implications for infrastructure provision and general service delivery.
He said it was in that regard that we had to fashion out strategies to live with the new normal without compromising our quality of life.
“The ravaging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be overemphasized and that the KMA, just like other cities in the world, has been affected in many ways. These effects ranges from socio-economic through to the health and general well being of the people in the City” the MCE noted.
Hon. Osei Assibey entreated the participants to contribute effectively in the workshop to enable the facilitators obtain the needed quality of inputs for the COVID-19 Recovery Plan for KMA.
