KMA AND BIGRS HOLDS TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR POLICE MTTD

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety(BIGRS) as part of a six-year support project towards the prevention of road traffic accidents in the Greater Kumasi enclave, has organized a 4-day workshop on Speed Enforcement for selected Officers of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service recently at the Royal Lamerta Hotel in Kumasi.

The officers were taken through Principles of a Safe System, Understanding the Risk factor-problem of speeding, speed enforcement; tactics and ways to conduct speed enforcement, speed enforcement technology and methods.

Speakers at the training included officials from the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP).

The officers were also taken to the field to practice what they were taught at the end of the 4-dayworkshop.

An officer of the MTTD,L/Cpl Annor Eric in an interview after the workshop said the training workshop was timely in view of the increasing number of accidents on our roads.

He said the workshop would equip the MTTD in sensitizing road users and the public on the prevention of road traffic accidents in the Greater Kumasi enclave.

He however called for more of such workshops since according to him, most of these road accidents occurs in West Africa especially, Ghana.
